Detention System 2011/12

New Detention System

Improvements have been made to our detention system because often under the old system too much time elapsed between the student getting it wrong and the detention finally being sat. Too much time was being spent re-booking detentions that had been missed and students not completing homework continued to offend. Students sometimes could not remember why they had been given the detention in the first place.

Under the new system teachers set 30 minute detentions and inform parents through the diary sticker system. If a student misses their detention without a valid reason in their diary from a parent/carer, the student will then get a 60 minute Head of Department detention.

Head of Department and Director of Learning detentions will be for 60 minutes. The Heads of Department and Directors of Learning will contact home, either by phone, email or letter, to explain these Detentions. If a student misses a 60 minute detention without a valid reason in their diary from a parent/carer, the student will get a 90 minute Headteacher Detention, which will be accompanied by a diary sticker and a letter home. It is therefore crucial that the home contact details are up-to-date.

In order for students to sit their detentions sooner, each department has a set day for detentions with three 30 minute sessions available. Heads of Department Detentions will take two of these sessions.

In addition to the after school detentions Directors of Learning will continue to set 8am detentions to those students that are persistently late to school.
