What is Media Studies?
Studying the media involves looking, watching, listening, participating in, discussing and producing a range of media products. The study is about more than just the products themselves. It entails investigating the people who made them and thinking about what type of people consume them, and what they gain from them. A media text is any modern media product which is the object of study. Examples of media texts covered in our courses are:

Why Media Studies?
In recent years the mass media has become an important focus for exploration by students in an increasingly media saturated world. The Mass Media is quickly developing as one of the most common forms by which individuals access information, entertainment and develop social and moral values. In our technology advanced society young people experience some form of media everyday of their lives, whether it is surfing the Internet, flipping through the latest magazines or enjoying their favourite television programme. By studying Media studies our students are equipping themselves with the necessary knowledge and skills that will transform them into confident interpreters of the messages and ideas contained in the media they enjoy.
All our Media Studies courses offer a framework through which you can study the distinctive contributions the mass media makes to our understanding and enjoyment of the world in which we live. Through a variety of approaches to the changing media environment they will develop a critical and analytical approach to the range of media texts as well as the media institutions which create and circulate them.
