Special Educational Needs Department
We cater to the non-average learner
There are a lot of different areas that are covered under the general umbrella of "Special Educational Needs". Some of these areas include poor literacy or numeracy, English as an Additional Language, Autism and Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Visual or Hearing Impairments, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and various other difficulties.
The SEN Department has a complement of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) who work alongside teaching staff to assist students reach their full potential in all aspects of the curriculum.
Not all of the support happens inside the classroom. Some of the LSAs run a Breakfast Club, which is open every morning from 8:00 until 8:30am, with participation by invitation only. There is also Homework Club, which runs on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for an hour after school - all are welcome.
We offer study support to students in Key Stage 4 who qualify for examination concessions. There is also specialist support for students with English as an Additional Language.
If you would like further information about the department, or you have a concern, please contact Mrs J M Clarke, SENCo.
