History is a well-respected academic A level and allows you to study a wide range of topics at University. Possible careers include journalism; broadcasting; civil service; lawyer; teacher; researcher; business management; government service; politician; museum curator; archaeologist.
What will I study
Unit 1: The Making of a Superpower: USA, 1865-1975
Unit 2: Religious Conflict and the Church in England, c1529-c1570
Unit 3: Historical investigation (choose own topic, coursework, non-exam)

You will really enjoy this subject if you have a keen interest in the past and want to come to a better understanding of the present. If you enjoy reading, thinking, researching and gathering evidence then consider History. Still unsure, then ask yourself: Do I like working independently and in small groups, debating and presenting? Organise and manage my time effectively? Communicate and write clearly? Want to challenge myself academically?
This course will enable you to develop a wide range of transferable skills such as in-depth research and historical investigation, critical analysis of historical interpretations, cross referencing of evidence, and comparison of sources, essay writing, note taking and summarising, and debating.
This is an academic qualification and can be a demanding course so you must be willing to read around the subject and write extended answers!
How will I be assessed
Paper 1 – 30% of the course – assessed by an examination.
Paper 2 – 30% of the course – assessed by an examination
20% Coursework – a historical Investigation into a topic of your choice, agreed with your teacher.
Students are continually assessed throughout the year with exam style questions and mock exams.
