What does this Course lead to?
This course can lead to further study in sport and / or higher education. It can also lead to employment in the sports industry in a range of different roles.

What will I study

You will study three mandatory content areas

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Wellbeing.
  • Professional Development in the Sports Industry.

You will also study one optional unit from a range of optional units such as

  • Sports Leadership
  • Application of Fitness Testing
  • Sports Psychology
  • Practical Sports Performance

What are the benefits of studying this course and what will I gain from it?

This course will allow you to further develop your knowledge and understanding of Physical Education and the impact of sports performance on individuals. You will look at the body’s systems in greater detail with regards to how they work together and allow performance to take place. Including the Skeletal System, the Muscular System, the Respiratory System, the Cardiovascular System and the Energy System for Sports Performance.

You will also have to interpret lifestyle factors and health screening data from a scenario and stimulus information in order to develop and justify a fitness training programme and nutritional advice based on these interpretations.

The sports industry is a vast market with many different pathways. For a successful career, you need to understand the scope and breadth of the available opportunities and the steps needed to follow your chosen pathway. Within this course, you will research the different possible careers and the associated job roles in the sports industry, then action plan your development towards achieving a selected career aim. You will analyse your own skills and identify how to develop them into a career through the use of a career plan. You will research your chosen career to understand how to access and progress within it.

You will develop your ability to learn independently, the ability to research actively and methodically to be able to give presentations based on the outcome of your research. You will have the opportunity to fully investigate and research areas of the sporting industry that interest you and begin to plan for and create the necessary documents to begin a career in the sporting industry.

How will I be assessed

You will be assessed in three ways on the course 

Assignment
Set and marked internally by your teachers (two units) and moderated by Pearson.

Task
Set and marked by Pearson – completed in supervised conditions (80 marks).

Written Exam
Set and marked by Pearson (90 marks) 1.5 hours exam.
